Actually that is the best way to fix it.

The wheel should always be straight. If the steering wheel was straight before then the wheel needs to be put back straight again. You can actually do this yourself pretty easily just adjust the tierod ends evenly till the wheel is back straight. Coding it to some off straight angle is a bad idea. If it wasn't straight before then it needs to be set straight and coded.
