I've searched all over for my OBD2 reader so I'm kind of going at it blind. I might pick up a generic one before I get a bimmer specific diagnostic/coder. Wish me luck.

You're going to need more than an OBD2 reader to work on your X. You need one that will read BMW specific codes. I have a Schwaben that ECS Tuning sells which is just a repackaged Foxwell. Both are good and necessary if you are going to work on your X yourself.
