The E53 looks dated? Conspicuously, I don't think the E53 looks remarkably different from the newest ones. I also have an '03 with the 4.4. I bought it just this past January with a blown transmission at 114k miles. It seems to run pretty good, though I do get what I think is the infamous 'VANOS rattle' on start-up when it's cold.
