I once had VW try to tell me that was normal too. I then asked them if they would put a used car on their lot for sale knowing it used a qt ever 2500 miles and they said nope so I said OK then fix this one (it was under warranty). New long block 2.0 later it was not using any oil at all. I hated that 2.0 from the late 1990s, what a pile of crap.
