To me, dark rims
can look great on certain cars painted white, but not much else. That kind contrast works for me, especially if the calipers are painted.
Otherwise, I would agree with the "dark rims look dirty and don't show well" sentiment. Dark exterior pain with dark rims look the worst to me, like the person has a habit of sneaking around at night, headlights off, avoiding attention...
