I watched a few youtube videos in reprogramming EEPROM and very interesting indeed that you can actually fix these things. The hardest part is to get a "clean" code and have the proper setup to connect to the chip. As you already know, you will need to get the exact version for your module which not many would dare enough to read the EEPROM code off their module, and save it for future use. I'm not even sure if it can be retrieved using a regular software like BMW Scanner 1.4. I know there's Read/Write feature on the software once connected to the Airbag module (or any modules) but frankly, I know very little to make me dangerous and screw everything up. I tend not to play (too much) with any modules on my car if they work.
It seems you are knowledgeable about electronics based on what you are looking for (reprogramming) and have the right tools to do the job. Good luck in finding a fix (whatever it is) to rid of your airbag light. I wish I could be of more help.
