2600@70 sounds like exactly what our two cars run. We have the 3.0 and I thought there is a different differential in the v8s so that would mean no lock up is the option that would cause higher rpm. I can feel when my transmission comes out of lock which also is apparent with the rpm snapping out of being locked to speed.

i've seen people refer to lock up as overdrive but I don't think I've seen BMW do that.
