BMW 5W-30 is no different than any other LL-01 oil. It can do extended drain intervals. That’s the whole idea behind LL-01 approval, it takes the guess work out of finding the right oil and guarantees quality/specs.

The 4.8 takes 9 quarts. FWIW, Mobil 1 0W-40 is no longer approved, but probably still fine.
