Not quite - the aux. water pump is an electric water pump (like a big fish tank pump!) usually mounted in behind the left headlight. I think all e53 cars have this fitted.

The Webasto Thermotop aux. HEATER is an actual fuel-fired (diesel in my case) heater, that heats the engine coolant, to bring the engine up to temp quickly in cold weather. In conjunction with the aux. water pump, it can also be activated when the car is not running (by remote control) to heat the cabin (via engine coolant and the heater core) - great on a frosty morning!
