I had a lengthy post about my day, but I messed up and lost it. The torn boot destroyed my day. I was unsuccessful in removing the 36 mm axle nut. I borrowed a proper impact socket from AutoZone and finally have an excuse to upgrade my ancient C/P gun with Harbor Freight's Earthquake XT impact wrench. Progress to resume tomorrow.

I DID pick up the cheap axle from AAP for $65 after discount code. The boot has likely been torn for a while, so hard saying how much damage the existing joint has suffered.
