The iBus adapter (in conjunction with the iBus app) allows you to access the "onBoard Computer" functions that are lost when you remove the MID - functions such as checking your fuel range, setting the clock etc.
It can also perform a few other advanced functions, like some coding etc.
The OBD "diagnostics" is just that - diagnostics. It uses a different app and requires a BT OBD adapter to be plugged into the 16-pin ODB port on the car.
They are very different things and have little (if any) cross-over.
