I use tapatallk for posting in large part because of the automatic picture sizing for upload.
I recently changed the electric coolant pump on a 328xi and that is the most inaccessible part on any car I've ever worked on. Similar to your situation, the only explanation is the engine is assembled before putting into the car and little to no consideration of how to repair was taken into account.
On the X5 3.0 engine, the air intake boot has a hose clamp screw on the bottom which the only way to get to it is to cut the boot in half first.
