Welcome. It is that time.
I have done my best to maintain and care for this beauty as much and as often as I could in the time I have owned it. I purchased it back in 2012 with the idea that I was going to keep it forever and eventually ride off with it into the sunset. I have learned as a result to never say never. Ever.
I'm selling (reluctantly) because we just discovered that the wife is pregnant. She has expressed that she would like a more current vehicle with a more up to date technology, safety features, reliability (which is fair) and would like a spot in the garage also.
I currently have this garaged as well as my 02 E39 and I have been commanded to keep the E39 given the recent work, amount of time, and finances I have put into it recently that she is well aware of. So hence the non-starter.
On to the details:
Imola Red 4.8IS with 86,600 miles
Purchased from an independent dealer in San Diego in 2012 with 72,740 miles. Which in the 7 years I've owned it, I've only driven it about 167 miles a month.

Current and Only Issue:
* The dreaded Self Leveling Suspension Inactive dash code. 90% of the Self Leveling Suspension has already received updates, new parts, and overhauled by both the BMW dealership and my trusted mechanic. I have the records itemizing these things. Both sources agree that the only item left to replace that will fix the issue is the Suspension Control Unit. Unfortunately the wife has put her foot down as far as spending anything beyond what was already invested. The vehicle however does not drop in ride height, it does not lose air, it just won't adjust in height (i.e. go up or down) as a result of the code.
Vehicle History
* The X5 has a lemon history behind it. This was disclosed to me by the seller (dealer) and it is also indicated in the title. From what I was told at the time of my purchase, BMW North America purchased the X5 back from its owner at the time during the lemon period and fixed every single issue, code, and symptoms the vehicle had. Completely overhauled the vehicle top to bottom, inside and out until it was clear of any problems. BMW NA then released it and put it back into circulation. It was then that the independent dealer I purchased it from obtained it.
I was fully aware of the vehicle's history when I purchased it. Seeing, test driving, and experiencing the vehicle for myself without any of these disclosed issues whatsoever made it OK for me to go ahead with the purchase. This detail may be something that breaks the deal for some and for others it may not be as long as the issues were resolved. I obviously belong to the latter.
Since I've owned it, it has not given me any issues aside from the Self Leveling Suspension code which is only fairly recent. I am not aware of any other issues or problems outside of this one. And when a problem arises, I'm the kind who goes after it right away. Case in point is the money I've thrown at the most current suspension issue so far.
This is a weekend vehicle that was leisurely driven and was not abused whatsoever. Gets thumbs up and nods of approval from strangers and admirers alike whenever it's out and about. It regularly receives hand washing and detailing both inside, outside, and in the engine bay despite only seeing occasional use. I am aware of its rarity as a 4.8IS model as well as the Imola Red it comes in hence the well taken cared of condition as you can see from the photos.
It would be great to sell this to someone who is familiar with the significance of this model and the condition that it is in and take on the responsibility of preserving and improving it the way I have over the course of owning it. Of course, enjoying it immensely in the process.
Let me know if you guys have any other questions.
Thanks!
