X5 is throttle by wire. There is no mechanical link from the gas pedal it's strictly electronic.

A decent scanner will show you the two pedal position sensors as well as any throttle related error.

There are four throttle sensors. A pair on the pedal and a pair on the actual throttle plate in the engine it's easy to confuse them.

I think you can get to the cable under the hood to manually hit the throttle that will give you some forward progress in finding the missing link.
