I can't project the future but it seems to me that any thread that is open to any question and then there is input toward a solution is counter to the intent of the forum.

The evolution of a catch all thread will parallel what is happening to this thread. There are less problem specific threads and more and more is posted here. If I do a search and it pulls up this thread as the location or a catch all thread I am going to have to read posts that are about other topics to find those that address my issue. As an OP I would never open such a thread to get clear, quick targeted input. An example of what happens on this and would happen on a catch all thread.--- What can cause a rough idle? Next post- Changed the oil and filter after 7500 miles. Next post-what oil did you use? Next post- not going to get into that one. Next post-why is there air. Next post-have you checked for a vacuum leak. etc etc.

I suspect almost everyone subscribes to this thread and would also have to subscribe to a catch all thread to stay in the loop. I looked forward to posts to this thread. I learned about things I might consider doing and the results and it was interesting just to hear what others are doing to their X5s. When there is a post I get an email and now I cringe when I do.

FYI- over the years I have been a member I have never heard of any concern for the number of new threads opened. Certainly there has never been a suggestion from Admin to post quick questions here. I think if a catch all type of thread is in order it should be endorsed or opened by Admin. just an opinion.
