I usually send a private message about posting ads since most are new members and I don't think it should be 'public'. When you Let folks know about selling things it is trying to help make the forum better. Good for you! I respect that. My intent is the same and I expect like respect.

It is very easy to unsubscribe. It is also just as easy to use the thread as intended. How does anyone think trying to solve problems and troubleshooting is not off topic in this thread? Why is it any different than hy jacking a thread, using bad language, verbally attacking a member etc.? The way to improve the forum is to follow all the rules not selectively.
