I've never messed with these cameras but I've long suspected that the trigger wire was just a loop feed from the power. The power wire receives power from the source (often the reverse lamp in any car without PWM lighting, so not in an e53...) and simply lops it back up the RCA to be th trigger wire for the head unit. Once the camera is powered up, it triggers the unit to switch to the incoming camera video.

In your case, you are "back-feeding " power to the camera - brilliant - esp. since you don't need a trigger.
