I won't start the which oil is best endless discussion but I will say any oil that meets or exceeds the specs of quality and weight range that BMW recommends for ones particular engine is best practice. IMO that applies from birth to death. More important is frequency of oil and filter change. I change the oil and filter every 7,500 miles.
