Today, on every cycle of the wipers, a noticeably loud click is coming from the dash. I could swear the wiper relay is in the engine compartment. Any thoughts on what the clicking could be?

Based on advice below, I pulled off the cowling, but the motor was secure. Clicking wasn't from that area. Fired up the wipers and although it sounded like it was from the dash it was the wiper itself. The tail of the right blade had come out of the arm and the metal reinforcements were clicking on the glass. Embarrassingly simple fix. Cowling removal not needed, although it did allow me the time to clean the leaves and debris out
