Just an FYI...unlike the new gen BMWs with their electronic park function & electronic gear shift lever (joy stick)...you don't need a tool to take your X5 out of gear...you can still use your gear shift lever to put the car into neutral even if there's no power. Your gear shift lever is mechanically linked to the transmission with a bowden cable (you can see it in the image below).
The available "tools" are listed in the parts database...and some of the stuff the US market didn't get (like #7... the warning triangle) because it doesn't meet the US DOT standards.
(I used my VIN to look this diagram up...so it may or may not apply to everyone since it is a 2006 model year..you can input the last 7 digits of your VIN to look up the diagram to verify. The tow hook had a "from" date in the supplemental column...so e53s built before that may require a different part nbr)
