I understand that position too. But I've tried setting up ISTA twice on an old laptop and was not successful (I was in IT in another lifetime). Besides the foxwell is much easier to throw in a door card or glove box when travelling. Both tools have their place, but I think the Foxwell comes in handy more often than the full suite of BMW tools on a laptop.
