The fuel pump always whines when running just not that obvious once the car starts.

You usually cant start the car once it stalls due to transfer pump failure but adding a couple gallons of gas you will be able to drive maybe 10-15 miles.

Learn how to use hidden menu test 6. It will show the quantity of gas left and right and you can determine what the fault is just from the gas tank levels.

Eg: if the right side drops below 1L of fuel before the left goes to zero the transfer pump oring has failed. (50¢ repair).
