I have the Bosch H8 AGM (also from Pepboys) in my 3.0i right now and is still showing strong charge retention after 5yrs+. I had noticed the Champion branded batteries are available starting sometime last year and is lower priced than the equivalent Bosch version. Looking at their specs, I can't really tell one from the other. Having had good experience with 2 Bosch batteries, I'm wondering if it's worth the tiny premium over the Champion?

Here's the exact one I put in:

BTW, from what I can tell, these Champion branded batteries are made by Johnson Controls and are only sold at PepBoys, so it's some special store-brand type of thing. 4 year full replacement warranty. And BTW, if anyone goes searching on PepBoys for other batteries, don't even try. Searching via google aimed at pepboys.com will actually get you useful info.

Most AGM batteries I've seen lately have the small standard hole for a vent plug on both left and right ends. When you get the battery at the store, it often has a rectangular, red/orange, mini-table-looking thing that plugs in and sits over the positive terminal. That piece of plastic will have a break-off plug cast into it. So that's where they give you the plug for the unused opening. Easy to miss that and mistakenly leave the second opening un-plugged.

I have also found that a plastic cap to a Presta valve (for high pressure bicycle tires) is an excellent substitute for a missing plug.
