The head mech at the shop I was at used to say the same thing. I think the only thing the E53 has going for it (over later chassis) is looks. It is a great vehicle to drive, don't get me wrong, very akin to the e39 in feel. It's just not as capable as it's successors in terms of comfort, refinement, and technology.

The X5M is a whole different kind of animal. Like comparing an e60 555i to an e60 M5. Wife wants an e70 x5m, and will have it eventually. Good luck and enjoy the G05. I'm sure it's a riot.
