Regardless of root cause my suggestion is that you consider replacing vacuum hoses if you have a high mileage diesel. The first collapsed hose on mine was for the egr a couple of years back, since then all vacuum perishables have been replaced as a precaution. When the glow plugs are up for renewal, it’s a good time to change vacuum lines as the inlet manifold needs removing.
