Even after the engagement feeling, there seems to be slipping problems until the transmission heats up. Once it's hot, there are no problems. I am guessing the o-rings etc. became brittle and start functioning good enough when hot to engage better and move the car.
Looks like the next to consider is a transmission replacement at this point. I am looking for one to pick up for cheap and rebuild it myself..

Sound more like you don't have the correct amount of fluid in the trans. ATF expand when it get hot and contract when it is cold. What was your procedure in refilling the trans?
