I didn’t refer to such a thing. The map cooling refers to the heater inside the thermostat. I don’t think it comes out but you can maybe test it with ohmmeter. You would have to search how.

The dial on the dash is not a gauge it for practical purposes, a three position idiot light. You have a way to measure the actual temp though so moot point.

The temp idiot dial should point directly up. You said it was slightly bellow half I’m not aware of any conditions that will cause that since the design is that it “snaps to noon” over about 30C range.
