I also bought the tire repair kit from BMW in White plains which for some reason had it as listed as discontinued and I paid $49 for the entire kit including the air pump. They have 4 left in stock for anyone who wants to by one.
My next question, they were out of windshield wipers, and by the time they get it in stock it will be too late for me, any other brands that work well. I've read stories of others not working well.
I also bought a 2 gallon Jimmy can, a flash light and other items.

Oe is bosch for wipers. For rain in general, I highly suggest waxing/ treating your windshield. Wax doesn't want to stick to my windshield, so I'm currently about to experiment with a second dose of an amzon glass coating. Worked really well, wore off from wipers at around 3 months in. For the cost, like $25, I can live with that. I'm going to continue trying different coatings though.
Flashlight and tire kits are good to have in your car alll the time. And a jerry can is great if you're going to be pushing the limits in rural parts of america but form NYC to St louis is a pretty heavily trafficked route. It's peace of mind but personally I'd probably forgo it out of annooyance of the smell in the cabin.
Hasn't been mentioned yet, but what motor is in your X5? Mine's a diesel which gives me a very comfortabel 550 mile range, and if I keep it at 75, I can get 650 mile range. I'm like... never worried about running out of fuel!
AFter spring mods, I'm looking forward to seeing my first 700 mile tank!
