We don't know enough in the US yet to know if the numbers are going to trend following any particular country/countries yet. The worldwide figure for annual flu contains those elderly populations as well so thought it's probably a worthwhile comparison to what the coronavirus is doing to those populations. No? I think the biggest problem is that even in the USA Influenza totals are done as an extrapolation since so many don't go to the doctor and testing for the flu is almost solely done upon admission to the hospital and the CDC uses some secret ninja bs to guesstimate the total number of infected and right now almost all people with symptoms are tested RFN for Chinese coronavirus and the numbers are truly being maintained.
