Diplomacy is not a tit-for-tat process nor are emotional responses constructive, that's just point and counterpoint and then the session ends with agree to disagree at best. More often than not the relationship is further compromised and tension is increased rather than eased.

IMO the statement from China should have been addressed separately rather than calling calling it the China virus. Leaders should be aware, have more common sense understanding, of the potential of some interpreting the label as racist which divides rather than unites. Or that it will be seen by some as an endorsement that their racism is justified or emboldened to act upon.

White house updates should be without spins, sidebars and emotional outbursts, We need firm dates and numbers to reduce the confusion and fear. The presenters don't even agree. At least start on time. Yesterday it started and hour late. That is inconsiderate and looks like there is no sense of urgency. Not even an apology or explanation at to why the delay. And to think it was the time, or at any time funny, to learn Romney is self quarantined and smile and say "gee that's too bad"? That lack of empathy, though just another instance, is startling. On the other hand, it was the best White house conference so far, a little better than terrible and closer to useful.
NO worries, I figured that out later on about the CDC.

As for diplomacy I can tell you that it most certainly is tit-for-tat as that's how countries basically say what would happen if such and such happened (basic generalization) I have at times over my life while in and out of the military worked at the White House (Clinton) DSSS (G. W. Bush) & Department of State Bureau of Political/Military Affairs (Obama) and my experience is that diplomacy is nothing more than saying "Nice doggy" all while getting a bigger stick.

I know that you didn't mean it that way (surely) that reporters time is more valuable than the leader of the free world and he should drop everything to keep to a schedule....

In the military and most places if you're on time you are late, but even the military has the expression (If the General wears his underwear outside his pants he's not wrong) i.e. If it's not illegal then the one who makes the rules.... makes the rules.
