I feel like it all sounds great EXCEPT for the Memphis mids bottoming out at only medium volume respective to what I feel the whole system should be able to handle. My questions, therefore, are these - has anyone found a better option for mids in dash than the memphis ones? Also, would a fix86 or bass-blockers help me out? OR, should I just keep dreaming about a VX400/4i???

How is everything hooked up?
E53 has 6 channels up front alone between the mids, tweets, and dash speakers. You driving everything (front and rear) with the marine 4 channel? Cool little amp BTW. And that VX400/4i... yummm.
With there being so many speakers in the X5 I opted for the Tim "the Toolman" Taylor option of 2x 500/5 JL Slash V1 amps and 1x 1000/1 Slash V1 to drive everything with it's own Xover and separate level adjustment. Obviously overkill, and I don't have any of it in the truck yet sooooo yeah. All the gear is just sitting on a shelf waiting for the kids to grow up
Edit: The fix86 looks like it would work from reading the description. But that price though. You like nice gear.

I think I'd try the bass blocker option if I was sure that the amp wasn't unhappy with the load I was presenting it and causing the distortion.
