Update... after ~$1700 in parts + labor, turbos and intercooler seem to be fine thankfully. Once the new valve cover gasket was installed the oil worked its way out of all the little nooks and crannies, car runs fine.

Apparently the valve cover gasket is a known issue that fails eventually after 100k mi. I made it to 135k. Guess I'm lucky.

Had 2 glow plugs failing also, so I figured the other 4 are likely not far behind. Just went ahead and bought the kit with 6 new ones + controller.
