The filter looks close to as big as the e53 and I changed one at 185,000 miles and though it was very black it wasn't flow restricted at all prob half its life left. Just a tiny o-ring was actually worn out.

As far as I'm aware the fuel filters on all modern BMW are effectively lifetime filters. People replace on e53 when the o-ring fails and you lose fuel pressure. I wonder if a similar situation goes on in the e70.

Having hard start issues and we just happen to be at 1/4 tank. So your fuel system thread on the e53 forum got me wondering about the siphon jet because it is exhibiting similar fuel starvation symptoms. But only when starting. Will start and runs for half a sec then dies. Does that 2 times and then it is fine. The next time I start it it is fine. Later in the day I start it and it continues cranking but won't start. Let off the brake and try starting again and fires up but runs rough for 3-4 seconds and then it is fine once again. Runs fine once started and running with the exception of that 3-4 sec period where it ran slightly rough. 70 miles DTE.

97K miles now. The fuel pump was replaced in 2019, with approx. 88K miles, under the recall when it failed on an out of state trip. So I didn't get to do the work and didn't notice if there was a filter in there. But the symptoms exhibited are similar or identical to the way it was acting on the trip before the fuel pump just plain up and died.

No codes. Will get out my ISTA/D laptop and see what I can see. But just read your thread and the symptoms seemed along those same lines. We are the second owners as of 67K miles and I do not have clear documentation of prior service records.

But to finish my previous thought process, I was looking to see if there was a similar siphon jet on this e70, like in the e53, that may be causing this issue. From what I can tell from the description in realoem there is not a siphon jet. Unless I simply need a more detailed image of the fuel supply system for part number 16117195469.
