I think my point was sort of overlooked. Again all the parts I am replacing are basically done, at the end of their life and ready to go. MOST of these lean code errors on the X5 I have are due to several basic parts. That's what I was trying to assess. If I was missing any of the basics.
I'll spray the MAF sensor, and I'll swap out the CCV and tubing, along with the intake gasket. My bet at this point is the CCV tubes. I did have a crack in the lower boot, that's fixed. Valve cover gasket was blown out, that's now fixed too.
After that, I'll get the smoke machine if needed.

I'm with you. Replace all the old crusty stuff that's going to fail anyway in the near future if it's not EOL already @ 167k miles. After the common maintenance related things, smoke it. It might be due for o2 sensors as well, but I'd save those for last after completing your service work and smoking it if an issue persists.
