Figured I'd open the old one up and play with the ribbon cable and clean it and re-seat it to see that will restore the color. I've read others having good results with this. I just hope it at least still works after reassembling it. Worst case if I get a replacement LCD for the one that came out which is also from an x5 but has red backlighting.
