I agree that short distances don't allow it to get up to operating temp but this very thin area can clog and prevent the oil from draining back to the pan. Then the oil just backs up and leaks out the top of the lowest fitted hose on the CCV.

Interesting. I think I might give that a try with a junkyard pull
My personal experience has been with the majority of the mayo build up being in the tube from the valve cover to the turbine
