Tricky solution such as this crazy trim match across a threshold.
Patched not painted. It will be a seamless transition between old 3/4 and new taller trim.
I replaced the old floors with new hardwood and it lowered the floor 3/4 “ and the basic quarter round no longer reached the baseboards.
Another example of 19th century carpentry. The seams will be invisible once caulked.
