It must be at least 4-5 years ago that I plasti-dipped my wheels and emblems. Still look new. Only damage I have had was from a Discount Tire rookie who installed new tires. Spraying and common paint repair methods don't work well because the material doesn't flow like paint and drys quickly. I followed the following method:

It is very important to watch applicable Dipyourcar tutorials about spraying techniques especially if coating rims. First rim I did looked terrible. I had to peel it all off. Only then did I watch the videos and actually practiced before starting over.
I didn't remove the emblems when I applied the dip. I peeled it away from from most places it shouldn't be, no Exacto blade needed. For the tiny spots like the closed portion of the 4 and 6 I used the point of an Exacto blade to just lift a 'corner' and peel the rest away.
