On the 32 mm wrench, I found on mine that a 1-1/4" wrench is just a little tighter (=31.75 mm), but still fits over the fan nut. So it's a tighter fit when on there. And that's important if going for the impact solution where you just hit the wrench with a mallet to loosen the nut.

So I don't use a holder at all, not even a screwdriver. Fan belt still on (provides some resistance). Open end 1-1/4" wrench on the nut. Hit hard to the right (since the nut threads are left-handed) with a rubber mallet, and it always comes off. Then when reinstalling, I use copper antiseize, spin the fan on by hand, and give the nut barely any torque at all to finish. (ensures easy removal next time I'm in there)

And good find on the broken fan blades - that will definitely cause a problem that makes some noise.
