E53 3.0d 2006 problems
How many miles?
Sudden change in steering wheel angle is often the front control arm on the rear axle.
I just replaced all my control arms and got a pro alignment by the best guys in town and two weeks later I need to steer right to drive straight.
You can correct that yourself by doing a symmertic adjustment on your tie rods.
Count partial turns eg turn 1/3 each side the same way then test drive and repeat.
The strange sound sounds like the subframe bushings.
It sounds like a "hiccup" in the drive train like power shuts off and resumes and will happen most often on bumps going up hill. You should also notice thud when shifting from reverse to forward under power. Eg don't stop; shift from rev to fwd while coasting slowly backwards.
