Having changed the guides on a couple M62tu, it's a lot of work that can likely be avoided for the life of a car just be changing the tensioner. (with only OEM).

Thanks. I am aware of timing chain issues on diesel n47/n57 engines hence the worry.
I don’t think it sounds like timing chain but I’m not very familiar with timing chain noises anyway. I will take your advice about tensioner as that is an easy fix to prolong the life of the chain. I’m more inclined to do more frequent oil changes as my driving tends to be short journeys only which diesel isn’t aimed for.
