I had a buddy go through this a couple of months back. He was getting a FRM code. After a lot of diagnosing with a multimeter and switching left for right, ect... He took it to the dealer, who could get the light to come on when hooked up to their computer, but not without. Service Manager said they could try a new FRM, but it would have to be coded to his particular X5 and not reversible, so he would get charged regardless if it worked or not. $600 IIRC.
He used my INSTA or INPA to go in and reset the FRM. He read somewhere online that once the FRM error is triggered and cleared 50 times, it needs to be reset directly. I'm trying to get a hold of him, as it wasn't just a clear code issue, it was more like he had to reset the module. Kinda of like doing a factory reset on a smartphone or computer.
Problem solved.
So, the new FRM would have fixed the problem, but was a very expensive solution.
