There are people do have put 30" tires with good results. As long as you are ok with some trade off the options are there I have no problem bumping up the diameter 3%

I didn't intend to imply the 3% would be a problem. I only wanted to make sure OP was aware of the tradeoffs and that I don't think it is necessary to change size tires to get where he wants to go.

I recall some of threads over the years I have been a member. I don't recall any consistency of opinion on what is the best solution or any followup on the results. In addition, different years, engines, tires, milage, rims and suspension have been compared as if the same results will be the case regardless of what X5 you have. That's the primary reason for my opinion to stay with stock size tires. I am quite sure there is a factory size tire that will be a fix. I would let the tire shop know what I am after and get their recommendation. And ask if I can exchange them if I am not happy with the results.

I should also mention using the spare tire can be a problem if not matched close enough to tire height of the other tires.
