You will "hear great things" and they will be chosen as OEM do to performance reasons that will not improve smoothness.

It's not going to break anything to ride a few miles with low psi. I would do that experiment "to extreme": use something like 25/30 front/back to do a control test. If you can't notice a difference with that, you have to try something else like remove the shock to test that or look into different tires.
