I never have used an AGM battery in any of my daily drivers or my backups, but I have used one in my old restomod '69 C-10, then another in my '66 Chevelle ( while it was still streetable, before having to use dual batteries with the big block drag race engines). I also tried a Gel battery, but fried it recharging between rounds.
I found that STD lead acid batteries were better when no alternator was used, and dual batteries were quik-charged several times a race day.
But, currently I've been using an Optima Yellowtop AGM in my home-built trailer for 12v power off grid since 2012. I charge it constantly whenever at home in the garage, or when camping at state parks, using a desulfating maintainer. Good battery.
