Take off the serp belt temporarily. It almost sounds like a load coming on and off. Something that can happen when a diode opens on the alternator. (or a bad pulley somewhere). Does it sound like it's coming from in front somewhere or does it sound like coming from valve train?

Listen with a stick to your ear or a mechanic stethoscope to seek the source location.
