Might have answered my own question here. Google:

"OEM BMW batteries have a date code stamped on top of the negative terminal in XX/XX (week/year) format. eg: 25/02 = 25th week of 2002. In addition, the 'age' doesn't matter so much as the current capacity.Jul 16, 2011" -Bimmerfest via Google
