Just had our N52 intake manifold off. I couldn't imagine doing it without doing so. You probably don't have to disconnect all the wiring and CCV system (if yours is like mine) and you should be able to do reach between the head/block and remove the inner DISA.

You getting a code for this? I hope it's not a common failure because I just did a whole rehab of mine (complete CCV setup, VCG, 4 front head bolts were broken) and did not replace that while in there...
