I have the same problem and will be fixing it myself.

The "proper fix" is replacing the $960 gear selector switch. (plus prob $150-250 labor at a dealer).

The part that failed is the $5 motor that turns an offset wheel that does two things: interlock to lock out sport mode and push the stick out of sport mode when you go to park without manually moving the selector knob right.

My first goal is to take the "gear suggestion box" (I call it that because it's entirely shift by wire; moving the knob only hits micro switches that suggest gear changes to the computer; it only makes the shift if the computer approves)

Anyhow there's a motor very similar to the motors that lock the doors and it's failed.

Sadly it's failed in the "locked out" position. If it failed in the "sport allowed" position you'd just have to manually move back out of sport to shift out of park.

Once I take apart the gear suggestion box I'll see if I can find the exact motor used and source one if possible to replace it.

Until I do, I plan to "unplug" the motor and manually turn it to the unlocked position so I can move the selector suggester left.

I will absolutely post pictures. I've watched the YouTube teardown videos it's 4/10 difficultly. (To tear down). I'm expecting 6-7/10 difficulty to actually disable the motor and set it in the unlocked position. 7/8 difficultly to actually swap over the motor brushes.

Their is a chance the problem is stripped gears not motor brushes but 95% chance it's the motor brushes just like the door lock actuator. (which I've replaced 5-6 sets on e53 turning $235 off brand part into $12 keep the OE part and repair (each door so 852 savings)
