i could feel the 2 hoses being hot after driving even with all things turned to cold. i did not do any testing as i already ordered the part. and yes, its the part under the hood on the US driver side inner fender. took 10 mins to swap out. i pinched the 3 hoses off with vice grips, unplugged, removed old part and installed new part. sounds like you have the same issue. you can test by looping one of the heater core hoses back into the heater core and loop the other hose back into the control valve. if it goes cold you have a bad valve or like the other guy mentioned possibly bad wiring. FCP euro sells new ones for a little over $100
